Smell the Flowers

Wow! Life can be hectic. I was going through my to-do list in my head as I walked through the door after dropping my daughters at school. I plonked my purse and keys down and was motoring to the office when I noticed my dog circling my legs, happily welcoming me home. I smiled at her as I barreled through the hallway, then stopped mid step.

I thought, this joyful pup is giving me her equivalent of a hug and I’m basically ignoring her. I have time. I have time to pet her and thank her for her warm welcome.

As Ferris Beuller so wisely said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

Time is one of those precious commodities that we never can have enough of, yet taking a moment to appreciate life, ourselves, someone or something is vastly important for our mental wellbeing (and others’ wellbeing if they are included in the moment you take - like Cameron and Simone with Ferris).

So, the next time you’re rushing around, feeling too busy, or even overwhelmed, take a moment. Pause and say to yourself, “I have time.” And if you want to get specific, you can add whatever it is that will fill your cup! For example, I have time; I have time to pet my dog. I have time; I have time to drop a care package at a sick friend’s house. I have time; I have time for a self-care manicure. I have time; I have time to play a game with my kids. I have time; I have time to take a walk with my partner. I have time…

It's so good for your mind, body and soul to slow your roll when you can, and I hope this little mantra helps with that.

Fragrantly yours,
